Hello there.
Well. It went off and despite some drop-outs and no-shows we still ended up with 8 in the water for what started as a pretty sweet wave at Gwenver, Cornwall. The start time was moved to 8am (which might explain a couple of no shows) and good job it was as the swell quickly died as predicted.
Everyone had a blast, even when conditions deteriorated, as you'd expect when a bunch of mat surfers get together. The vibe was good and there were smiles all round.
First time Matmeet attendant, Juan was showing some impressive surfing and came very close to a wave of the day award on his debut but UK Mat scene pin-up Ian Wraith (Piskian) pipped him with an early storming left meaning the awards for the day were as follows (like anyone cares):
Wave of the Day: Ian
2nd Rate Matter: Juan
Most Girly Hair: Andy (Cookson). Andy did really well as Cana Wraith is an actual girl and he still won this category!!!
Also, props to Juan's son Peru who has to be the youngest matter in the UK. Pretty impressive too. Also, he had a go on a handplane I made and ripped so I just had to give it to him... It'll certainly get more use than from me (plus I have the mighty "hand mat").

That's it. I'm selling my house and moving to Cornwall! No wait, I can't right now, but I'd sure like to have been there for that. Looks like it was so fun!
